Equipment: 11 pylons per group (4 participants per group)
1 rubber chicken per group
1 pinnie per group
Objective:
For teams to pass their chicken from their set of pylons to the next participant in the correct way.
Other Skills:
Coordination
Jump (optional)
Set up:
Divide participants into groups of 4.
Please see attached document for example of set up.
Set up 4 sets of 2 pylons in a row for each group. Have the two pylons be about 2-3 feet apart from each other. Have each set of pylons around 10-15 feet apart.
In between and to the side of two sets of pylons, place another pylon (or use a beanbag).
Place a pinnie at the third set of pylons.
Place a rubber chicken at the first set of pylons.
Step by Step:
1. For each group, have one participant stand between the first set of pylons, one between the second, one between the third (with the pinnie), and one between the fourth.
2. The first participant will start with the rubber chicken.
3. They will hold the chicken with two hands and swing it between their legs 3 times (the "grandma" bowling stance), then they will toss it to the second participant.
4. The second participant will catch the chicken, but they will not turn around. They will remain standing with their back to the third participant. They have to throw the chicken from behind their back to the third participant.
5. The third participant will be holding a pinnie, and they have to catch the rubber chicken on the pinnie.
6. They will then turn around and face the fourth participant, and with the chicken still on the pinnie, toss it to the fourth participant.
7. The fourth participant will catch it, and run (skip, grapevine, hop etc...) around the pylon set up until they get to the first set of pylons.
8. After the first, second and third participant throws the chicken, they run to the pylon that is to the side and down from their set of pylons and run around it once before continuing to run to the next set of pylons.
9. When the fourth participant is at the starting pylons, all the other participants should have moved down to the next set of pylons.
10. The fourth participant is now the first participant, and they will swing the chicken between their legs and throw it to the new second participant.
11. Continue until all participants have done each role.
12. If any of the participants do not catch the chicken, they can either toss it back to the participant who threw it and they try again, or the thrower and catcher both have to do 5 jumping jacks before moving on (the leader can decide which to do).
13. Participants always have to throw the chicken from between the two pylons, but they can leave it to catch the chicken.
14. After they've practiced a couple times, have a race between the teams.
Variations:
Just use one pylon per participant and throwing spot. Use a beanbag instead of a pylon for where they have to run around.
Have more or less participants in the group.
Change how participants are to throw the rubber chicken.
Use a tennis ball, foam ball, volleyball, football, or beanbag instead of a rubber chicken.
