Equipment: 1 tennis ball/beanbag/football/frisbee/basketball/foam ball per 2-3 participants
Objective:
For participants to clap as many times as they can before they catch the ball thrown to them.
Set up:
Have participants get into pairs or groups of 3.
Give each group a ball or a choice of balls to choose from.
Older participants could use footballs or frisbees and younger participants could use beanbags, tennis balls or foam balls.
Step by Step:
1. Have each group spread out around the area and stand 5-10 feet away from each other.
2. The whole group, or each pair/group of 3, will come up with the exercise that the losing participant has to do each round. Could be jumping jacks, squats, sit ups, heel raises, high knees, lunges and so on.
3. One participant will start with the ball.
4. They will throw the ball to their partner.
5. As soon as the ball is in the air, the participant who will be catching the ball will start to clap their hands and count the number of times they clap.
6. They will then try to catch the ball.
7. If they do catch the ball, then the participant that threw the ball will have to do the pre-determined exercise the number of times their partner clapped.
8. If the catcher does not catch the ball, then they have to do the pre-determined exercise the number of times they clapped.
9. If the exercise is jumping jacks, and the participant clapped 8 times and then caught the ball, then the thrower would have to do 8 jumping jacks. If they clapped 8 times and then missed, then the catcher would have to do 8 jumping jacks.
10. After the participant completes the exercise required, then the other participant throws the ball.
11. If participants are in groups of 3, then they will throw in a triangle formation.
12. Have participants stand closer or further back from each other, depending on skill level and the type of ball being thrown.
13. Change the exercise after 4 or so throws.
Variations:
Set a maximum number of claps allowed for each throw.
Create catching parameters for the participants. They have to catch with one hand, catch with two hands, catch with one foot in the air, catch in a crouched position and so on.
