Time Required: 15
Activity Type: Physical
Group Size: Large Group, Medium Group, Small Group
Age Group: 6 - 9yrs, 9 - 12yrs, 13+ yrs
Play area: Gymnasium (large indoor space)
Safety Considerations: Remove any safety hazards and obstacles from the play area.
Remind participants to be aware of their surroundings and to keep their head up and be prepared for a pass.
Equipment: Basketball
Cones (for boundaries)
4 Hoops
Objective:
For participants to pass the basketball to their teammates while staying in their sections

Other Skills:
Pass
Coordination
Set up:
Use the outlines of the gym as the outside boundaries.
Divide the inside boundaries into 8 equal sections. Use lines on the gym and/or cones on the side of the boundaries to create the sections. Do not use cones or rope inside the boundaries, as they may hinder some of the passes.
Place two hoops (or two squares made from cones) anywhere inside the two end sections.
See attached document for example of set up.
Divide the group into teams of 8-11 participants.
Step by Step:
1. Have two participants from team A stand in the hoops in one of the end sections, and two participants from team B stand in the hoops on the other end. These sections are called the "Final Sections" (see the attached document to this activity for an example of the set up).
2. Participants can choose where their hoop will go in their section, but once the game begins, they cannot move from the hoop, or move the hoop.
3. There will be three participants from one team standing in the other sections.
4. The section in front of team A's Final Section is team B's Back Line, in front of them is team A's Front Line, then team B's Middle Line, then team A's Middle Line, then team B's Front Line, then A's Back Line, then team B's Final Section.
5. The goal for the teams is to pass the basketball to one of their teammate's in a hoop in the Final Section.
6. Participants cannot leave their section at any time.
7. The game will start by the leader rolling/bouncing/tossing the basketball in between the two middle sections.
8. Participants can dribble, run, move and pass the basketball within their section to each other.
9. Basketball rules still apply though, there is no double dribbling, travelling or carrying the ball. If they do this, the ball goes to the other team.
10. Using bounce passes, chest passes and overhand passes, participants have to pass the ball forward to their team's sections.
11. The other team is in between them and trying to intercept the ball.
12. When a team successfully passes the basketball to one of their teammates in a hoop, they score a point.
13. Change both participants in the hoop with two other participants.
14. If the participant in the hoop misses the pass, or steps out of their hoop, then the ball goes to the other team.
15. If a participant steps out of their section with the ball or the ball goes out of bounds, it is the other team's ball.
16. Play for a set amount of time or for a set amount of points.
17. Foosketball away!
Variations:
Have more or less than 3 participants in each section.
Have 3-4 sections instead of 8. The end two sections will be with a basketball net. Inside each section will be 3 participants from each team. So they'll both be going for the ball in that section and will have to work on getting open, passing, shooting and defending.
In each end have 2 participants from each team. One team will be trying to get open for the pass while the other two participants will be defending the pass and trying to intercept.
See "Human Foosball" for a soccer version of this activity.

Adaptations (General):
Encourage teams to work collaboratively and to include all participants.

Adaptations (Blindness/Visual Impairment):
Use a ball with a bell inside, or with a plastic bag tied around it, so that participants who are blind or visually impaired can hear it.
