Dodgeballs.
Cones and rope for boundaries if necessary.
Objective:
For frogger to get from end to the other jumping from "lily pad" to "lily pad" (hoops) without getting hit by any big waves (balls). While the throwers from the other team try to throw/roll the ball so it hits the frogger below the knees.
Other Skills:
Underhand Roll
Coordination
Speed
Set up:
If playing indoors, the boundaries can be the outside lines of the gym. If playing outdoors or indoors where there are no lines, set up boundaries using pylons or rope to create a playing space.
Divide participants into two equal teams.
Have one team standing on the sideline on one half of the gym, and the other team standing on the other - these are the throwers.
Select 4 participants from each team to be the Frogger Quartet.
Both Frogger Quartets will start on one end of the gym, however they will stand closer to the other team's throwers.
Place 4 hoops down in a straight line at the start (see attached document for example of set up).
Step by Step:
1. All the throwers on the sides will have a dodgeball.
2. Their goal is to throw the ball and hit the frogger that is jumping in the "lily pads" (hoops) from knee down. The ball is a wave that will knock the frogger off their lily pad if hit.
3. After they throw their ball, they can run in and retrieve it, however they cannot get in the way of the frogger quartet team.
4. They can only throw again when they are behind the throwing line.
5. The frogger will jump from one hoop to the next, and the rest of the frogger quartet team have to work together and keep bringing the hoops forward and in front of each other so the frogger can continue jumping.
6. The frogger can only go forward when there is a hoop to jump in.
7. The frogger has to watch for the throwers on the side, and try to dodge any balls that are thrown or rolled their way, but they cannot leave the hoop.
8. The other frogger quartet members can block any balls and protect their frogger, as it doesn't matter if the dodgeballs hit them.
9. If the frogger is hit below the knees, then the wave will have knocked them off their lily pad and they have to go back to the start. However, the other frogger quartet members do not have to. A new frogger goes in the front hoop, and the remaining 2 frogger quartet members continue to move the hoops.
10. If the new frogger is hit, then they go to the start and a new frogger goes in the front hoop, and the one remaining frogger quartet member has to move all of the hoops.
11. If that frogger is hit, then they have to go back to the start and they all start again.
12. The first team to have a frogger cross the finish line, wins!
13. Send in another 4 members from each team to be the frogger quartet.
14. If a frogger misses a hoop and lands in the water, then that is the same as getting hit by a wave.
Variations:
Don't have the participants on the side, just have a race with participants to see which frogger quartet can get from one end to the other the quickest.
Have frogger trios and only use 3 hoops.
If the frogger is hit, they all have to go back to the start, and change froggers at the starting line.
If the frogger is hit, they have to hop on one foot. If they put that foot down or are hit again, then they go back to the start.
Play outdoors and participants have to kick soccer balls at the frogger.

Adaptations (General):
Encourage teams to work collaboratively together and to support one another throughout this activity.

Adaptations (Blindness/Visual Impairment):
Use a dodgeball with a bell inside or tie a plastic bag around it so that "froggers" who are blind or visually impaired can hear it.
