Skill: Hop, Jump
Time Required: 10
Activity Type: Physical, Transition
Group Size: Large Group, Medium Group, Small Group
Age Group:
Play area: Gymnasium (large indoor space), Outdoor - Field
Safety Considerations: Make sure the items are placed close together so participants aren't jumping too far.
Ensure groups are spread out.
Equipment: Items for participants to use: Beanbags, pylons, pinnies, skipping ropes, hoops and so on.
Pen and paper (optional)
Objective:
Participants have to remember their group's sequence and add to the sequence each turn.
Set up:
Divide participants into groups of 3-4 participants.
Each group will take 3-4 objects (beanbags, skipping ropes, pylons, pinnies, hoops and so on).
They will place these objects close together in a square or triangle.
Step by Step:
1. Each group is going to create and remember their very own sequence, doing one move at a time.
2. One participant for each round can be the judge and they get a piece of paper and pen.
3. The other participants will number off.
4. The first participant will stand in the centre of their objects and then jump/hop to one of the objects.
5. The judge will write down which object they jumped to.
6. The next participant will stand in the centre and jump/hop to the item the first participant jumped to, and then they will jump/hop to another item.
7. The judge will write down which object they jumped to.
8. The next participant (or first participant if there are only two participants), will go to the centre and jump/hop to the first two items and then jump to another item.
9. Participants can stay at the same item for their turn, but instead of jumping at it again, they do a jumping jack.
10. The judge will make sure that each participant jumps/hops to the correct item and in the correct order.
11. When a participant jumps to a wrong item, they are out.
12. The winner will be the new judge and the judge will join in the next round.
13. To make it more difficult, participants have to do an exercise at each item.
14. They jump to a skipping rope and then do a squat. The next participant jumps to the skipping rope and does the squat, then jumps to the pylon and does a lunge and so on.
Variations:
Use hoops as the items. Participants have to jump and have both feet land in the hoop for it to count.
Each participant jumps to two items each turn.
If a participant goes to the wrong item, they get one more try to get it right.
