Fictional Lands

Skill: Dodge, Run
Time Required: 20
Activity Type: Physical
Group Size: Large Group, Medium Group, Small Group
Age Group: 6 - 9yrs, 9 - 12yrs
Play area: Gymnasium (large indoor space), Outdoor - Field
Safety Considerations: Remove any safety hazards and obstacles from the play area.
Remind participants to be aware of their surroundings and to keep their head up.
Equipment: 4-6 mats (or use cones/rope to set up an area the size of a mat).
Objective:
For the participants to run from one fictional land or landmark to the other, while the "real"ators try to tag them and bring them back to reality.
Other Skills:
Speed
Set up:
Set up 4-6 mats around the outside of a gym, or around an area outdoors around the same size as a gym.
If using 6 mats, have 3 along one side and 3 along the other. If using 4, have them on the corners of the gym.
Each mat represents a fictional land or landmark (see step-by-step for lands to use).
If there are no mats, use cones or rope to create 4-6 different areas about the size of a mat.
Select two participants to be the "real"ators and have them stand in the middle of the space.
The other participants have to run from one fictional land or landmark to the other, while the "real"ators try to tag them and bring them back to reality.
Step by Step:
1. Name each mat a name of a fictional land or landmark from a movie, tv show or book, such as: Hogwarts, Narnia, Bedrock, Seven Dwarves House, Far Far Away Land and Elsa's Ice Castle.
2. Have all participants start on one of the fictional lands (mats or cone created areas).
3. Make sure there are at least 2-3 on each fictional land.
4. The "real"ators stand in the middle.
5. Whenever they yell "Moving Time", all participants have to run from one land to another.
6. There can only be a maximum of 4 participants on a land at once, so if a participant is running to a land and there is already 4 participants, then they have to find another land. Or use another maximum that works best with the number of participants that are playing.
7. Could be a rule that they cannot run to a land that is right next to theirs.
8. If a "real"ator tags a participant, then they are now in reality, and help the "real"ators tag participants.
9. If a participant makes it safely on a mat/cone, they are safe!
10. Play until there is only one or two participants left, and they can be the new "real"ators.
Variations:
Use countries, provinces, cities or local landmarks instead of fictional land/landmarks.
Don't have a maximum number of participants on a land at once.
Take away mats as the game goes on and there are less participants.
Start with more "real"ators.
